Sam, on the other hand, finds himself in the middle of the rather bizarre murder of a husband and wife by samurai sword. The fact that the brother married the victim’s wife adds to the weirdness/sliminess of the case. It immediately gets the wrong type of media attention when the brother of the deceased holds a press conference in front of his own business, getting lots of publicity – for his store. But Nikki is going to give it her all, even though the family doesn’t particularly want the investigation re-opened, and the last detective to investigate it is not going to make it easy on her. He has a new, (and very young compared to Sam) partner, and he’s not sure he has the energy to break in anyone else.Īlthough she doesn’t think it can be solved, Nikki has been handed a 25-year old cold case involving the death of a police officer. So she has moved to the new Cold Case team, and although she is generally around for dinner, she’s missing the excitement of a fresh kill in Homicide. But Nikki has decided that she wants to spend more time with her two boys while they are still young enough to accept having her around. Homicide Detectives Nikki Liska and Sam Kovac have been partners for a long time. Hopefully Ms Hoag is writing the next one…. With the snappy dialog and a true mystery, these books continue to make my day. The Bitter Season by Tami Hoag is the 5th book in the Detectives Kovac and Liska mystery series.
